Kowalski @ AKA Basement sessions

Kowalski were one of the first bands we recorded under AKA when they came and played for us in December 2011. Keep an eye on the Offbeat TV channel on youtube for more acts.

We also like to document ourselves buggering about and generally having a laugh whilst working. You can expect a steady torrent of "making of" videos for all our upcoming projects.

First Post

Offbeat was formed by Marc Sylvester, owner of Also Known As, and local promoter/hipster Sam Jackson in the summer of 2011, with the intention of offering quality original live music for the town of Banbury.

It quickly became evident that Banbury had become simmering stew of hot local talent, a younger generation bored by CDJ's, commercial pop and talent shows. Sam and Marc quickly decided to invest some time and money into the acts, paying for studio time and helping with further promotion.

Joined by Dan Peters, an old friend and sound engineer in late 2011 Offbeat Music was born. The ethos was simple, everybody works for everybody else towards a common goal. We are a creative collective not a company.

The introduction of the basement sessions, offering live multitrack recordings and 3 hi - def camera shoots in the cellar of AKA to the artists performing upstairs, saw
Johnny and Taylor from Fresh FX enter the Offbeat fold, supplying honed camera skills, tasty equipment, and masterful editing.

In early 2012, Offbeat, in partnership with Recoil Films, produced its first promo video with "Dance a la Plage" - "Matilda". The video notched up 10,000 hits in the first week and put Offbeat Music and Dance a la Plage firmly on the map.

With bands now listing AKA in their UK and European tour dates, new musical projects, a studio in development and more videos in pre-production, 2012 is shaping up to be the year of Offbeat Music
